The invention relates to a method for separating a crude alcohol by distillation, said crude alcohol containing essentially 82 to 98 wt. % of a C8 to C12 alcohol. The crude product is separated into a first product stream consisting of light-boiling components, an alcohol product stream and another product stream consisting of the higher-boiling components in a first distillation column. Said other product stream is then separated into a product stream consisting of the alcohol and a high boiler product stream in a second distillation column whose packing volume is a factor 50 to 200 smaller than that of the first distillation column. |
