PURPOSE: A reproducing device for a DCC(Digital Compact Cassette) and a detecting method thereof are provided to detect at a high speed through adjusting rpm(revolutions per minute) of a reel motor. CONSTITUTION: By turning on a device, an auxiliary data is read for checking input of a detect key. In case of input of the detect key, reading state of a TOC is checked. In case of a larger amount of data are detected than a predetermined amount of data, the data is detected at a faster speed than a FF(Fast Forward) speed. By reaching a target location, a mode is converted into a reproducing mode. After reading the auxiliary data, existence of a start mark is checked. Without detecting the start mark, detection is performed at a normal playback speed. Then, the device is normally operated by detecting the start mark.
