<p>This invention relates to the manufacture of small radioactive seeds used for implantation into tumors to eradicate cancerous cells, and used as an alternative to external radiation therapy such as electron beam irradiation. The seed is produced by inserting at least one image marker (20) and introducing X-124 into the capsule (12). The conversion of non-radioactive Xe-124 to radioactive I-125 occurs in the sealed capsule (12) after welding capsule end (18) and irradiating in a nuclear reactor. The activity of the seed is controlled by varying the pressure and/or the amount of neutron bombardement.</p> |
