PURPOSE: A plasma address LCD and a method for driving the same are provided to achieve a reliability of a plasma address LCD by reducing a current quantity, and ensure a data writing time and a data holding time. CONSTITUTION: A plasma address LCD applies a scan pulse having a predetermined voltage pulse to positive and negative electrodes. During the rising time and delay time of the scan pulse, a step-type driving pulse is applied to the negative electrode. The step-type driving pulse is increased from 0V to a first voltage level, is reduced from the first voltage level to the second voltage level, then, the step-type driving pulse is to be a voltage level of the scan pulse. The step-type driving pulse is increased from a voltage level to a second voltage level, is increased from the second voltage level to the first voltage level, and then the step-type driving pulse is reduced to a voltage level of 0V. Thereby, the plasma address LCD achieves a reliability of a plasma address LCD by reducing a current quantity, and ensures a data writing time and a data holding time.
