PURPOSE: A position control system for a movable machine is provided to be capable of decreasing the error range in position control, detecting the generation of the error as well as correcting the error by substituting two pairs of forward/backward sensors for single plate sensor. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of position displaying plates(11) are mounted in respective working points on a transfer rail(11), and shields the beams from U-shaped photoelectric switches(14,18) to sense the positions of the working points. The photoelectric switches(14,18) are suitably disposed under a stacker crane(13), and the backward sensor(18) and forward sensor(14) are respectively disposed behind and front of the stacker crane(13). Therefore, the movable machine moves along the transfer rail(11), sensors are operated in respective positions, and so an ECU verifies the current position of the movable machine on the transfer rail.
