A showerhead assembly comprises a main body 15A, a stator 20, a rotor 30, an engager 40, a seal 50, a pressure plate 60 and a face plate 80. Water enters the showerhead through a hose attached to the main body and proceeds through the stator to the rotor. The rotor blades 34 are angled so as to cause spinning of the rotor as water passes over the blades. Arcuate pads 37 attached to the blades provide a stop surface for the water, thus spinning of the rotor provides alternately an open passage and a stop surface to the water flow, resulting in a pulsating flow. Face plate 80 is equipped with two sets of spray jets (92A) and (92B), which can be aligned with holes in the pressure plate to generate a deflected and a non deflected spray. The face plate also engages with engager 40 in a camming manner, such that rotation of the face plate causes axial movement of the engager. When the engager is moved axially into the showerhead, it prevents the spinning of rotor 30. In use the faceplate can be set in any of four positions. In one position jets (92A) are aligned with the pressure plate, while the engager is positioned axially inwards, in a second position jets (92B) aligned with the pressure plate whilst the engager is positioned axially inwards, in subsequent positions either set of jets are aligned, whilst the engager is positioned axially outwards. Thus four types of spray can be created, a deflected spray or a non deflected spray, either spray being pulsating or non pulsating. Also disclosed are means for generating an aerated spray, which may either replace the deflection means in, or add another spray control method to the showerhead, and provision for the various components of the showerhead to be standardised, such that they may be 'mixed and matched' to provide a range of showerheads from a small number of components. |
