New extracts and compounds from Ganoderma pfeifferi , useful e.g. as antibacterial and antiviral agents, preservatives, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food additives and in fish farming, are protease inhibitors

Biologically active extracts obtained from Ganoderma pfeifferi DMS 13239 by solvent extraction are new. Independent claims are also included for: (A) 3,26-Dihydroxy-lanosta-8,24-dien-7-one (I); (B) hydroquinone derivatives of formulae (II), (III) and (IV) and hydroquinone derivatives of formula (V) as well as their preparation; and (C) hydroquinone-antibiotic conjugates of formula (VI) and their preparation. R<1> - R<3> = H, halo, alkyl, or alkoxy; COOR<4> = COOH (optionally in the form of a salt, acid halide, amide or ester with an aliphatic or aromatic alcohol); R<5> = -CH2-aryl, -CH2-alkyl, -CH2-O-aryl, -CH2-O-alkyl, -CH2N3, -CH2-COOH, -CH2-CHO, -CH2-OH, -CH2-NR<9>2, -CX3, -CHX2, -CH2X, or -CH3, or a carbohydrate group bonded via a hetero atom; R<51> = group derived from an acid anhydride, especially phthalic anhydride; R<6> = alkyl or aryl; R<7> = H, alkyl or aryl; R<9> = H, alkyl or aryl; X = F, Cl or Br; n = 1-10; and A = group of formula (a)-(g).
