The method for feeding a series of sheets of paper or card (40) on to a stack (44) uses a first conveyor (I) along which the sheets are conveyed, then braked so that they form a row of overlapping sheets (42) which is fed on at reduced speed to the stacking point (30). When the stack requires changing, sheets are fed onto a branch conveyor (II) which takes them over a longer path before feeding them back on to the first conveyor with a gap between the last of the sheets transported directly to the stacking point using the first conveyor and the first sheet of the batch arriving from the branch conveyor.
