A loose-leaf retainer (1) of the type comprising a number of openable, spring-loaded rings (2) for insertion through corresponding holes along a side edge of loose leaves, said rings (2) being secured in an elongate holding rail (3), and having a securing device for preventing unintentional opening of the rings (2), in which the securing device comprises a locking rail (4) with U-shaped cross section and having a bottom wall (5) as abutment for the holding rail and a width corresponding to the diameter of the rings and side walls (6) upright therefrom, whereby the locking rail (4) has such a length that when slid onto the holding rail (3) to a locking position it covers at least one ring (2) which by the upright side walls (6) is kept in a closed position, the locking rail (4) and the holding rail (3) being provided with co-operating means for locking the two rails in order to prevent displacement of the locking rail (4) away from the locking position.
