The display consists of several adaptive laser write modules and a liquid crystal plate comprising a double-periodic mask and a bistable liquid crystal layer. The mask lies directly proximate to the LC layer. Several laser write units with vertical and horizontal deflectable laser beams focussed on the LC layer, are arranged next to and above each other, behind the LC plate. The laser write units include individual modulation- and interface-logic circuitry. Laser sensors for feedback are arranged in front of or behind the plate to form a correspondence between the time-dependent horizontal and vertical deflection of the laser beam and the sub-pixel-precision coordinates of the laser beam on the LC layer. Using the fed back pulses from the laser sensors, the interface logic circuitry can perform an initial calibration of the laser beams. The laser beams are then continuously monitored.
