A hand held surgical light assembly (10) is provided with a light source (22 ), a handpiece (12) which is adapted to be grasped, and manipulated by a user. The handpiece (12) has a light guide (16) with a proximal end optically connected to the light source (22), and a distal end which projects outwardl y from said handpiece so as to direct light guided thereby onto a field of vie w determined by manipulation of the handpiece by the user. The handpiece includes a switch assembly (70) which is operatively coupled to the light source (22) to allow user selection between at least two different light intensities (e.g., essentially on/off) discharged by said light guide (16) onto the field of view. In preferred forms, the switch assembly (70) include s an electrically conductive inner core (70)(72), and an electrically conducti ve outer tubular elastomeric member (70)(71) concentrically positioned in the surrounding, but spaced relationship, with the inner base. |
