<p>The oxidized metabolites of 20 and 22 carbon polyunsaturated fatty acids strongly inhibit cell cycle progession of cancer cells. Active fractions of oxidized polyunsaturated fatty acids are isolated by chromatography and used in the anti-proliferative compositions. Preferred for use in the present invention are oxidized arachidonic acid and oxidized docosahexaenoiC acid. The compositions may be applied directly to tumors on the skin in ointment form, or delivered to tumor cells by conventional formulations such as intravenous injections.</p> |
