An electron source, though it uses spacers (9), controls electron-emitting elements to uniformly emit electrons. A plurality of row wires (8) intersect with a plurality of column wires (6) on a substrate (1). An electron-emitting element consisting of element electrodes (2, 3), conductive film (4) and an electron emitter (5) is provided at each intersection of the row wires (8) and column wires (6). Spacers (9) are placed on some of the row wires (8). The column wires (6) are connected with regulated current sources (221a, 221b, 221c) capable of supplying desired current. The row wires (8) are connected with voltage source means that includes a voltage source (223) and a switching circuit (222) for selecting the row wires (8) while sequentially scanning them.
|
