<p>An arrangement for compacting bulky packaging material comprises a moveable, laterally open frame structure that includes an abutment means (3) spaced above a bottom plate (6). The material (2) can be stored on lay-up bars (7) located a short distance above the plate (6), prior to or after compaction. A forklift truck (5), which can be driven on a truck supporting surface (4) on which the bottom plate (6) of the frame structure rests, is driven to a position in which its forks (8) are located vertically beneath the abutment means (3). The forks are raised to compress the material against the abutment means. The frame structure includes generally vertical posts (1) that converge towards each other to form supports for the material prior to and during compression, and also to allow the material to be compressed horizontally in the longitudinal direction of the frame structure as the material is pressed up against the abutment means (3).</p> |
