In the present invention there is disclosed the use of dimethylbenzofuran or dimethylbenzopyran derivative of the general formula I, in which Re1 and Re2 represents each a hydrogen atom or both together represent a bivalent group of the general formula -CH=CH-CH=CH-, -CH=C(Cl)-CH=CH- or -CH=CH-C(Cl)=CH-, n is 2, 3 or 4, Re3 represents a hydrogen atom or a methoxy group, m is the number 1 or 2, Re4 represents a hydrogen atom, an amino group or an alkylcarbonylamino group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms in the alkyl part, and Re5 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts or stereochemically isomeric forms for preparing a medicament intended for treating diseases mediated by 5-HTi3. In the present invention there are also claimed levorotatory enantiomers of derivatives of the general formula I, process and intermediates for their preparation as well as pharmaceutical preparations based thereon.
