A plug assembly for data transmission includes a wiring manifold (36) which controls the position of the conductors between the point where the cable connected to the plug enters the plug and the contacts of the plug. The cable consists of four twisted pairs of conductors AB, CD, EF and GH and the conductors are presented to the plug contacts in the sequence ABCFEDGH. The wiring manifold (36) constrains the conductors to run with the C conductor adjacent the E conductor. Preferably, the D conductor is constrained to run adjacent the F conductor. The arrangement reduces cross-talk within the plug predictably so that it can be cancelled using suitable components associated with a socket into which the plug is, in use, inserted.
