PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a steel strip excellent in surface properties and workability by subjecting a steel having a specified compsn. composed of C, Si, P, S, Cr, Ni, Al and Fe to hot rolling, coiling it at a specified temp., subjecting it to cooling once, thereafter executing specified temp. rising and cooling and subjecting it to descaling and pickling. SOLUTION: A ferritic stainless steel having a compsn. contg., by weight, <=0.12% C, <=1.00% Si, <=0.100% P, <=0.030% S, 10 to 20% Cr, <=0.75% Ni and 0.001 to 0.5% Al, furthermore contg., at need, 0.005 to 0.20% Cu, moreover contg. <=1.00% Mn, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is hot-rolled, and the steel strip is coiled at a temp. of >=700 deg.C and is held for >=1 hr. Next, the steel strip is temporarily cooled, thereafter, its temp. is raised to a temp. of the inequality: heat increasing temp. deg.C>=1,250Al+800 (Al <=0.16%) or heat increasing temp. deg.C>=1,000 (Al>0.16%) in accordance with the Al content, and, subsequently, it is rapidly cooled to 400 deg.C at >=0.2 deg.C/sec and is moreover subjected to mechanical descaling and pickling with sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid.
