PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing a carbon-based raw material, capable of readily separating and removing a harmful waste gas such as sulfurous acid gas, etc., producing a useful gas containing carbon monoxide by a simple operation in a high yield, making a metal constituting a metal sulfide into a metal oxide and reusing the metal oxide as a raw material for a liquid slug. SOLUTION: A carbon-based raw material containing sulfur, etc., is fed to a liquid slug layer 19 formed on a molten metal 18 to form a carbon monoxide-containing gas and sulfur, etc., are fixed as a metal sulfide, etc. An oxidizing gas is fed to the molten metal layer 18 to form a sulfurous acid gas, etc., and a metal oxide. The formed metal oxide is reused as a raw material for the liquid slag layer 19. The slug forming the liquid slug layer 19 comprises 10-80 wt.% of one or more kinds of oxides selected from the group consisting of FeO, MnO, NiO and Cr2O3 and the rest of one or more kinds of oxides selected from the group consisting of Al2O3, SiO2 and CaO. |
