PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a manganese carbonate suitable as a raw material for producing lithium manganate, or the like, for a lithium secondary battery, which is spherical and fine particulate and has high tapping density. SOLUTION: This fine particulate manganese carbonate having spherical particle form, a median diameter of <=10 μm and a tapping density of >=1.2 g/cm3 is obtained by dissolving metal manganese by using a solution containing ammonium ion and then blowing CO2 gas into the solution while keeping the pH of the solution to be not less than 8.5. In this case, it is preferable that the concentration of manganese contained in the solution obtained by dissolving metal manganese is controlled to be not more than 1.5 mol/l before blowing CO2 gas, and the CO2 gas is preferably blown plural times. It is possible that the solution from which the formed fine particulate manganese carbonate is removed is reused as the solution for dissolving metal manganese. |
