PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high efficiency for threading work by intermittent cutting. SOLUTION: This thread cutting method moves a cutting tool 1 along the outer-periphery surface or inner-periphery surface of a material to be cut for thread cutting, wherein the cutting tool 1 provided with a plurality of cutting edges 3 at its outer-periphery part are rotated around its center line and is revolved around the center line of a periphery surface cutting the thread and moves it in the axial direction along the center line of the revolution, and a ratio of the rotation speed to the revolution speed of the tool 1 is set at 37 or less to cut the periphery surface for threading.
