PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for a cancer, capable of inhibiting the conversion into an undifferentiated type cell and converting an undifferentiated type cell into a differentiated type cell by including a p38 inhibitor. SOLUTION: A prophylactic or therapeutic agent preferably for an undifferentiated type cancer is obtained by including a p38 inhibitor. The treating agent preferably inhibits the generation of an undifferentiated type cancer. The p38 inhibitor is a compound of formula I (R1 is an alkyl, an alkoxy or the like; X is N, O or the like; Y is N, NH or the like; R2 is H, an alkyl or the like) or a pharmaceutically permissible base of the compound, and it is preferably 4-[5-(fluorophenyl)-2-(4-methanesulfinylphenyl)-3H-imidazo-4-yl]pyridine of formula II or its pharmaceutically permissible salt. The daily dose for adult is preferably 0.1-10 mg/kg in the case of oral administration and 0.01-5 mg/kg in one to several divided doses in the case of intravenous administration.
