PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the rigidity of a polyolefin-based resin and produce a layered silicate composite material having extremely improved moldability by including a layered silicate, an organic cation, an unsaturated monomer- modified polyolefin and optionally the polyolefin-based resin. SOLUTION: The objective composite material containing a layered silicate having >=40Åinterlayer distance measured by an X-ray diffraction method is obtained by allowing the composite material to include (A) 0.01-15 wt.% layered silicate (such as an expansive clayey compound, e.g. a layered phyllosilicate mineral, and concretely montmorillonite or the like), (B) 0.001-15 wt.% organic cation (e.g. tetrabutylammonium ion), (C) an unsaturated monomer- modified polyolefin (e.g. an unsaturated monomer-modified polypropylene), and, optionally and additionally, (D) a polyolefin-based resin (e.g. a polypropylene- based resin).
