PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maximize the effective service length of a billet by incorporating the billet into the carrying-in line for the billet in an extruder. SOLUTION: This cutting apparatus is provided with supporting rollers 11, 11 supporting a billet W, and a milling cutter 21 cutting the surface of the billet W on the supporting rollers 11, 11. The supporting rollers 11, 11 can make positive rotation and rotate the billet W in the peripheral direction, and the milling cutter 21 can make high speed rotation and cut the outer periphery of the billet W fed in the axial direction.
