PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a 7-azolyl-1H-pyrazolo-triazoles useful as a coupler for photographs in a simple step and in a high yield by reacting specific halogenopyrazolotriazoles with azoles in the presence of an oxidizing agent and a base. SOLUTION: (A) A compound of formula I [X1 and X2 are each a group of the formula =C(R2)- or =N-; R1 and R2 are each H or a substituent group; X is a halogen] (e.g. a compound of formula II) is reacted with (B) an azole (e.g. a compound of formula III), preferably at a molar ratio of (1:1) to (1:10) in the presence of (C) an oxidizing agent (preferably hydrogen peroxide) and (D) a base (e.g. sodium carbonate), preferably at a temp. of 20-80 deg.C for 1-8 hr to provide the objective compound (e.g. a compound of formula V) of formula IV (A is non-metallic atomic group necessary for forming an azole ring together with N). Preferable amount of the components C and D used are each 0.01-0.1 mol and 1.1-10 mol based on 1 mol component A.
