PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a string removing device for inexpensive waste paper for automatically cutting or twist removing strings wound around waste papers safely and without human labor, and efficiently and quickly recovering removed strings from waste paper bundles. SOLUTION: A string removing device 10 is provided with a hopper 24 storing waste papers 11 bundled by strings 12, a string removing section 30 removing the strings 12 wound around the waste papers 11 and passing through the hopper 24, a string recovering section 60 winding and recovering the removed strings 12 and a conveyor 80 carrying the waste papers 11 from which the strings 12 are removed, and the string removing section 30 is provided with a rotating blade 46 with a cutting knife 45 set around a rotating shaft 40, a press member 50 facing the rotating blade 46 and provided movable forward and backward and a spring 54 pressing the press member 50 to the direction of the rotating blade 46.
