PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oligosaccharide that has the promoting action of proliferation of Bacillus bifidus and the protection from pathogenic bacteria and is useful as a material for beverage and processed food products by intravenously dosing a saccharide to mammalians and allowing them to secret the oligosaccharide into milk. SOLUTION: Ringer's solution including a saccharide, for example, xylose, N-acetylglucosamine, lactose or the like is intravenously, for example, via the jugular vein of mammalians, for example, cattle or goat and then an oligosaccharide is allowed to secret into their milk. Then, the mammalians are milked, the milk is combined with an about double amount of methanol, the mixture is stirred and allowed to stand thereby precipitating the proteins included in the milk. This precipitate is removed by filtration, and the recovered filtrate is concentrated with a rotary evaporator, a small amount of methanol is added to the concentrate to crystallize and remove an excessive amount of the saccharide. Finally the supernatant is analyzed to verify the presence of oligosaccharide.
