PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set the modules of an ALC existing external wall panel and a new external wall panel to correspond to each other or an integral multiple length of one of the panels and prohibit the joint of the new external wall panel from being located near the end of the ALC existing external wall panel or at its joint portion. SOLUTION: In a structure of modifying an existing external wall surface, a furring strip 3 is mounted on an ALC existing external wall panel 1 and an external wall panel 4 is mounted on the furring strip 3. The module of the ALC existing external wall panel 1 is 600 mm, the mounting pitch of the furring strip 3 is 600 mm and the mounting pitch and length of the external wall panel 4 is the integral multiple of 600 mm. In this way, the joint portion of the newly mounted external wall panel 4, when mounted, is prohibited from being located near the end of the ALC existing external wall panel 1 all times, and cracking or damage into the ALC existing external wall panel 1 is prevented during mounting the furring strip 3.
