PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine for motorcycles, which can be machined with ease, and in which the force working in the direction along the face dividing a crankcase into a crankcase upper and a crankcase lower is restrained. SOLUTION: In this engine, a crankcase 6 containing a crankshaft 4 and a transmission 5 is divided into a crankcase upper 7 and a crankcase lower 8, and the crankshaft 4 and the input shaft 10 or output shaft 11 of the transmission 5 are supported on the face 9 which divides the crankcase 6 into the crankcase upper 7 and a crankcase lower 8. In addition, a shaft center O of a cylinder tilted forward and the face 9 are made to orthogonalize.
