PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment of glass bottles which is capable of easily regulating the front and rear positions and vertical position of a dipping tank, the positions of cams disposed before and behind the dipping tank, or the like, is capable of making the thickness of a coating film uniform and is capable of efficiently removing the bubbles of air in a dipping liquid. SOLUTION: The glass bottle is clamped in a glass bottle clamper disposed at an endless transporting conveyor freely rotatably around the bottle axis. While the glass bottle is transported by the endless transporting conveyor, the glass bottle subjected to washing and drying is dipped into the dipping tank 16 to adhere a dipping liquid on the surface of the glass bottle. While the glass bottle is further transported by the endless transporting conveyor, the dipping liquid is dried in a drying section to form the coating layer on the surface of the glass bottle. In the surface treating apparatus for the glass bottles, the dipping tank 16 has a mechanism for horizontally moving the dipping tank 16 in the direction orthogonal with the transporting direction of the glass bottles 3 and a mechanism for moving the dipping tank 16 in a vertical direction. These mechanism are made manually operative by handles during running.
