PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To iprovide a denitrification/reduction type wastewater cleaning treatment system using facultative anaerobic bacteria, which is capable of decomposing, denitrifying and reducing nitrates in a short time exerting a harmful influence on the breeding of organisms such as aquarium tropical fishes, fishes or edible shellfishes for good. SOLUTION: In this system, an aerobic recycle water stream passage of water to be subjected to reduction treatment with an aerobic filter using aerobic bacteria and an anaerobic recycle water stream passage of water to be subjected to reduction treatment with a closed type anaerobic filter 10 using anaerobic bacteria, are formed into two separate routes. Nitrates caused within the aerobic recycle water stream passage, are infiltrated through powdery sand 5 into the anaerobic recycle water stream passage to decompose nitrates within this anaerobic recycle water stream passage. Gaseous nitrogen in the anaerobic recycle water stream passage, which is generated when the nitrates are decomposed, is discharged in such an isolated state that the gaseous nitrogen is not brought into contact with water within the aerobic recycle water stream passage.
