PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a semimetal adsorbent comprising a polyallylamine deriv. having a sugar side chain and to obtain excellent adsorbing capacity of a semimetal by bringing a dilute acid into contact with the adsorbent having adsorbed a semimetal to elute the semimetal before bringing an ammonium chloride-ammonia buffer soln. with a specific pH value into contact therewith. SOLUTION: A semimetal adsorbent comprises a polyallylamine deriv. having sugars bonded to its side chain. As an adsorbing treatment method of boron- containing waste water using the semimetal adsorbent, for example, a batchwise method for directly charging the semimetal adsorbent in waste water to mix the same with the waste water under stirring and allowing the resulting mixture to stand or a column type method for continuously passing waste water through a column packed with the semimetal adsorbent is used. The adsorbent having adsorbed a semimetal such as boron is brought into contact with a dilute acid such as hydrochloric acid, or the like, to elute the adsorbed semimetal. An ammonium chloride-ammonia buffer soln. with pH 8-9 is brought into contact with the adsorbent from which the semimetal is eluted to regenerate the adsorbent to repeatedly use the same.
