PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion and gasification furnace of a low grade fuel, capable of precisely preventing a ceramic filler from dropping downward even if the opening at the lower end of the reaction furnace is enlarged, and capable of corresponding to enlargement. SOLUTION: This combustion and gasification furnace has a reaction furnace 10 for burning or gasifying the fuel, having a feed nozzle 12 for feeding a fuel and an oxidizer, installed in the top part, a gas-reacting space 14 formed at the lower part of the feed nozzle 12, and a ceramic packed layer 16 formed at the lower part of the gas-reacting space 14, capable of allowing a melted ash to be attached thereto and dropped dropwise, and capable of catalytically reacting a reaction gas with the melted ash, and composed of ceramic fillers 16a, and a separation chamber 20 for gravitationally separating the generated melted ash 3 and the reaction gas 4, connected to the lower part of the reaction furnace 10. A drop-preventing member 30 is arranged at the lower end opening 10d at a distance from which the ceramic fillers 16a can not drop.
