PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and surely decomposing dioxins in incineration ash. SOLUTION: This decomposition method comprises mixing incineration ash 1 containing dioxins with water 2 to form an aqueous slurry solution 3, adding an oxidizing agent 4 to the aqueous slurry solution 3 and subjecting the resulting solution to prescribed treatment 5 at >=25 deg.C, wherein: an example of the prescribed treatment 5 is treatment comprising an agitation operation; as the oxidizing agent 4, any agent selected from H202, halogen oxides and their salts and oxomanganates, is preferably used; and further preferably, prior to the addition of such an oxidizing agent 4 to the aqueous slurry solution 3, hydrochloric acid is added to the slurry solution 3 beforehand to adjust the pH of the solution 3 to <=7.
