PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel good in forgeability and machinability and used for automobiles and general machines. SOLUTION: This steel has a compsn. contg., by weight, 0.1 to 0.85% C, 0.01 to 1.5% Si, 0.05 to 2.0% Mn, 0.003 to 0.2% P and 0.003 to 0.5% S, furthermore contg. one or >= two kinds among 0.0003 to 0.01% Zr, 0.003 to 0.005% Te, 0.0002 to 0.005% Ca and 0.0003 to 0.005% Mg, in which Al<=0.01%, total- O<=0.02%, and total-N40.02% are limited, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The steel is excellent in forgeability and having good machinability by spheroidizing the shape of sulfides.
