PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound comprising a cyclic hydrocarboncarboxylic acid having a cyclopropyl functional group, having a biological activity equal to that of vitamin E in vivo, thus having more beneficial effect. SOLUTION: This new compound is a compound of formula I (R1, R2, R2', R3 and R3' are each H, a 1-10C alkyl, phenyl, acetyl or a halogen), being obtained by the following process: thionyl chloride is reacted with a compound of formula II as the starting material to form a compound of formula III, which in turn, is reacted with a compound of formula IV in the presence of a base [e.g. pyridine, pyridine/4-(dimethylamino)pyridine, triethylamine] in a neutral solvent or an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent pref. in the temp. range of 0 deg.C to the boiling point of the solvent (about 120 deg.C), wherein the molar ratio: the compound of formula IV/compound of formula III/base is pref. 1.0:(1.5-8.0):(1.2-5.0).
