PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject suppository base for obtaining a suppository that causes no deterioration in qualities, for example, deformation and cracking and shows good drug release, internal absorption and safety at the applied site by including a fat and oil base and polyethylene. SOLUTION: The objective base is obtained by including (A) a fat and oil base and (B) polyethylene, preferably in an amount of 1-20 wt.% based on the whole weight of the base, preferably in addition (C) 0.5-10 wt.% of polyglycerol fatty acid ester. In a preferred embodiment, the weight ratio of the component B to the component A or to the total of the component A and the component C is 1/(0.01-0.5). The component B has preferably an average molecular weight of 500-30,000. A preferred component A is a mixture of one or two or more kinds of cacao butter, laurin butter, tallow, hard fat or their mixture and additionally the mixture of these fats with one or more kinds of oils that is liquid at ordinary temperature, for example, coconut oil, palm kernel oil, camellia oil, olive oil, soybean oil, sesame oil, corn oil and the like.
