PRODUCTION OF MIZORIBINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain mizoribine that has cytotoxicity and immunosuppression activity by performing an aerobic fermentation in an enriched liquid culture medium including carbon and nitrogen-assimilating sources in the presence of a strain of Eupenicillium javanicum. SOLUTION: This relates to a fermentation process for producing mizoribine. The fermentation is carried out in an enriched liquid culture medium including carbon and nitrogen assimilating sources in the presence of adduct type inorganic salt under aerobic conditions by using a strain of Eupenicillium javanicum at 23-33 deg.C for 3-7 days to produce the objective mizoribine that is also known as bredinin (5-hydroxy-1-β-D-ribofranosyl-1H-imidazole-4- carboxamide) and is a nucleoside antibiotic substance having the cytotoxicity and the immunosuppression activity via microbiology procedure.
