PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition which is used for cleaning oral cavities and contains as an active ingredient a soluble potassium salt prepared by reacting sodium laurylsulfate with a potassium salt without forming insoluble potassium laurylsulfate precipitates. SOLUTION: The composition for cleaning oral cavities comprises an effective amount of a soluble potassium salt, a sodium 8-24C alkylsulfate in an amount effective for removing or separating organic deposits and/or stains from the surface, and a polar surfactant having a hydrophobic portion selected from a 6-30C alkyl group and a polymer silicone group. Therein, the polar surfactant and the sodium 8-24C alkylsulfate are contained in a molar ratio of about 1:1 or larger. The composition for cleaning the oral cavities includes a composition for oral cavities and for removing and separating plaques and/or stains from the surfaces of teeth, and a composition for oral cavities and for moderating the sensitivities of dental nerves and/or dentin. The composition for cleaning oral cavities and for moderating the sensitivities of dental nerves and/or dentin furthermore contains an active amount of an ingredient for moderating the sensitivities of the dental nerves and/or the dentin, a vehicle capable of being accepted for oral cavities, and a flavor not containing a substantial amount of menthol in an amount effective for giving the flavor to the composition.
