PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid printing image quality deterioration by eliminating displacement of ink dots by ejecting ink droplets for an impact position test, optically detecting the ejected ink droplets for finding an ink droplets hypothetical impact position, and adjusting the ink droplet ejection time at the time of image formation based on the result. SOLUTION: An ink-jet printer 20 comprises a step motor 30 for moving a carriage with a printing head 36 mounted, along a guide rail 34 in a main scarnning direction, and a paper feeding motor for moving a paper in a sub scanning direction, or the like. An impact position detecting part 40, provided with a light emitting element and a light receiving element facing with each other, is mounted detachably on the substantially center of a platen plate 26 so as to face the printing head 36. In adjusting the ink droplets impact position, when ink droplets for the impact position test are ejected with the impact position detecting part 40 mounted, whether or not the ink droplets impact a targeted position is judged in the case where an output voltage of the light receiving element is changed.
