PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wear resistant ring for piston ring made of a free graphite precipitated ferrous sintering material, excellent in wear resistance and small in mating attackability. SOLUTION: This wear resistant ring for piston ring is composed of a free graphite precipitated ferrous sintering material having a compsn. contg. 1 to 35% high alloy hard grains contg., as free graphite forming components and base strengthening components, by weight, 0.5 to 5% C and, as base forming components, 0.5 to 5% Cr, 0.2 to 1% Mn, 0.05 to 1% S, 0.05 to 1% B, 10 to 20% Ni and 1 to 8% Cu, moreover contg., at need, 0.1 to 2% Mo and furthermore 1 to 35% high alloy hard perticles having 600 to 1,800 Vickers hardness, and the balance Fe as base forming components with inevitable impurities and having a structure in which the base is substantially formed of austenite, free graphite is not substantially present and is present in a state of being precipitated and grown in the pores, and the above high alloy hard perticles are dispersed and distributed into the base.
