What is claimed is a process for preparing macropolycyclic polyamines of the formula where A1, A2, A3 and A4 are as defined in the description. These compounds are prepared by a novel improved process by reacting a cyclic amine of the formula with a compound of the formula X-A2-Y or X-A3-Y where A1, A2, A3 and A4 are as defined in the description and X and Y are a leaving group.
