PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water pump which circulates cooling water, only when the temperature of an engine rises up, and which stops the circulation of cooling water during warm-up operation of the engine. SOLUTION: A water pump has a clutch mechanism installed between a pulley 20 and a pump shaft 16. When the temperature of cooling water is low during the warm-up operation of an engine, only the pulley 20 is rotated and the rotation of the pump shaft 16 is stopped. When the temperature of cooling water is raised, a bimetal 44 provided to the pump shaft 16 detects the temperature so as to warp, and as a result, a slidable push rod 18 of the pump shaft 16 is pushed so as to open a valve element, in order to circulate via the fluid to have the power transmitted from the pulley 20 to the pump shaft 16. With this arrangement, drive the water pump 11 is driven and cooling water is circulated.
