PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which is prevented from flashing only momentarily, caused by phenomenon in which a pulse voltage from a starter circuit is not impressed on the discharge lamp in the period from turn-on of the power supply to lighting as the start. SOLUTION: A discharge lamp lighting device is configured, and a DC-DC converter 2 as a lighting circuit makes voltage conversion of the voltage of a DC power supply 1 and lights up a discharge lamp 6 with the output voltage. A capacitor C1 is connected to the output ends of the DC/DC converter 2, and to the two ends of the capacitor C1, the discharge lamp 6 is connected via the secondary winding of a pulse transformer PT. The DC/DC converter 2 supplies the power to a starter circuit 4, which feeds the current to the primary winding of the pulse transformer PT, and a pulse voltage is generated in the secondary winding. The time T2 from the turn-on of the power supply until the starter circuit 4 generating a pulse voltage Vp is set longer than a time T1 from the turn-on of the power supply until when the voltage of the capacitor C1 between the two ends reaches a voltage Vr, at which the discharge lamp 6 can be lighted up as the starting operation. |
