PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron element having improved stability, durability, and light emitting luminance by supporting a layer containing at least one kind of biindolizine derivatives between a pair of electrodes. SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescence element comprises a positive electrode 2, a positive hole injection transport layer 3, a luminescent layer 4, an electron injection transport layer 5, and a negative electrode 6. A biindolizine derivative is preferred to be used for the positive hole injection transport layer 3, the luminescent layer 4, or the electron injection transport layer 5, and is more preferred to be used for the positive hole injection transporting layer 3 or the luminescent layer 4. It is preferred that the positive electrode 2 be formed with a metal or an alloy, having a relatively large work function and the negative electrode 6 is formed with a metal and an alloy having a relatively small work function. The positive hole injection transport layer 3 ensures easy injection of a positive hole from the positive electrode 2 and transports the injected positive hole. The luminescent layer 4 injects and transports the positive hole and an electron, generates excitons through recombination of positive hole and electron. The electron injection transport layer 5 ensures easy injection of the electrons from the negative electrode 6, and transports the injected electrons.
