PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly start the lighting operation, and to improve the stability by providing a lead part of an induction coil on the outer circumference of an electrodeless discharge lamp at a position farthest from supports. SOLUTION: A lead part 5 is formed of two lead wires 51, and provided so as to connect an induction coil 3 and a high frequency power source circuit 6 to each other. A support 7 is provided so as to hold a bobbin 4 for induction coil. When current is supplied from an alternating current power source to the high frequency power source circuit 6, high frequency current is output to the induction coil 3 through the lead part 5, and high frequency electromagnetic field generated by the induction coil 3 is applied to an electrodeless discharge lamp 2 so as to excite the discharge gas for light emission, and a lamp is lighted. In this case, in order to maintain a distance between the lead part 5 and the support 7, the lead part 5 is arranged at a nearly intermediate part between the two supports 7, and matching deviation due to the generation of capacitive coupling can be restrain as small as possible. Consequently, lighting operation of the electrodeless discharge lamp 2 can be smoothly performed.
