PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the confocal microscope which can select a pattern on a rotary body according to the power of an objective and obtains a confocal image of good picture quality. SOLUTION: Image of respective parts having passed through the pinhole part and opening part of a rotary disk 18 which is rotated by a motor 21 and corresponds to objectives 19a are picked up by a CCD camera 23. The respective images obtained by this CCD camera 23 are stored by a computer 24 to obtain a confocal image. The signal from a synchronizing signal generator 30 for video camera which generates the signal synchronized with the CCD camera 23 is put in phase with the detection signal from an optical detecting element 27a (27b) detecting the rotational state of the rotary disk 18 by a control circuit 28. According to the timing of the signals synchronized by this control circuit 28, a trigger signal generating circuit 31 generates a signal for controlling the CCD camera 23.
