PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the measurement accuracy of distance between vehicles by preventing the calculation of distance as a measurement target when an unstable reflection object is detected. SOLUTION: A distance operation part 4 outputs distance data being calculated to a distance accumulation part 5 each time a timing signal is inputted from an emission timing generation part 3. The distance data are accumulated at a position corresponding to each step of the distance accumulation part 5 at each operation. For example, when distance data for the past five periods have been accumulated, the distance data for the five periods are averaged and a distance range is set. The distance range has been obtained from a specific operation or a table with the average value of the distance data as a center position. When the distance has been set, a distance output judgment part 7 compares the calculated most recent distance data with a set distance range to judge whether the distance data are within the distance range or not. When it is judged that the distance data are within the distance range, the most recent distance data are outputted to a device for controlling the distance between vehicles as the distance between vehicles.
