PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the amount of pre-load of a rolling bearing with a simple method utilizing a property where the propagation characteristics of an ultrasonic wave change according to a pressure state by transmitting a signal for reciprocating between the end faces of a shaft from an ultrasonic sensor and performing the arithmetic processing of a reception signal. SOLUTION: A pre-load being given to conical rolling bearings 1 and 2 by clamping a bearing nut 6 in contact with the inner-wheel end face of, for example, the conical rolling bearing 2 is measured by an ultrasonic sensor 7 being mounted in contact with an end face 5c of a shaft 5 with a lubricant as a medium. A signal transmitted from the ultrasonic sensor 7 advances in the shaft toward the other end face of the shaft, is reflected, and returns to the end face 5c. When the length of the shaft 5 is extended due to the application of the pre-load, the reciprocating time of the signal is extended. The amount of pre-load is calculated by the reciprocating time of the signal, the propagation time, and the foundation data of the shaft 5 by an ultrasonic computing element 8 and is displayed, for example, at a display part. The value is compared with the preset amount of pre-load for the clamping adjustment or the like of the bearing nut 6. |
