PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to be able to preset the channel in response to a district without the need for entry of a district number by the user. SOLUTION: In this television receiver, a counter circuit 31 counts a ripple component included in the output voltage of a bridge rectifier 30a of a power supply circuit 30 receiving a commercial AC power supply to measure the frequency of the power supply and gives the result to a control section 20. The control section 20 discriminates a district where it is placed according t the result and presets a channel in response to the district according to a preset request from a user. Thus, the user needs not to check its district number on an instruction manual and to enter the district number with the enhanced user- friendliness.
