PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid inappropriate exposure during use in a set state by giving the operation environment of a mechanical shutter in the set state and measuring the parameter of response delay. SOLUTION: An electronic still camera is formed of an actuator for mechanical shutter 28, a mechanical shutter 29 driven by the actuator 28, an image sensor (CCD) 30 and the driver 31 of a CCD 30, for example. The actuator 28 open/close-drives the mechanical shutter 29 in accordance with a control signal from a CPU 40. The mechanical shutter 29 opens an optical path to the light receiving face of the CCD 30 when it is in an open state and closes the optical path in a closed state. Until the mechanical shutter 29 becomes in the closed state from the start of the close control of the mechanical shutter 29, electric signal quantity equivalent to the charge quantity accumulated in the CCD 30 is obtained as a correlative parameter showing the response delay of the mechanical shutter 29.
